Prediabetes,
as the name implies is a stage before
developing diabetes. People who develop
type II diabetes mellitus almost always
have a prediabetes stage, where their
blood glucose levels are higher than
normal but not high enough to be labeled
as diabetics.
Is it
important to find out whether you have
prediabetes?
Yes! If detected early, you can take
action to delay or prevent type II
diabetes from developing.
How do you know whether you have
prediabetes?
Your doctor can determine this by
performing two blood tests, namely,
fasting plasma glucose and an oral glucose
tolerance test. The blood glucose
measurements after these tests would
indicate whether you have a normal
metabolism or prediabetes or diabetes.

So, if you
have prediabetes, its time to act because,
it can increase the risk of developing
heart disease and you may develop type II
diabetes in the future. Moreover, some
long-term damage to organs may already be
occurring during prediabetes.
